It never fails to amaze me how Saturday, and especially Sunday feel so wildly different because of drop in noise level. They are favorite days because I can finally hear myselfLinds Frankhttp://www.greetingsfromtheamericangirl.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7725154806633928919.post-25689195793626248872011-10-13T21:21:52.039+02:002011-10-13T21:21:52.039+02:00Dom: I'm now fascinated by this idea of the pé...Dom: I'm now fascinated by this idea of the périphérique being a calming lullaby, but I can understand it. It has its own rythms, like the regular crashing of the waves for those who live by the coast.

I grew up in the suburbs, and my nightly lullaby was the electric hum of a nearby factory. We quickly get used to these things and miss them when they are not there.Adamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06453626318828119830noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7725154806633928919.post-36333260768226929442011-10-09T23:36:20.280+02:002011-10-09T23:36:20.280+02:00What a very interesting and fascinating post! I live in the west close to the periph and rather it being an intrusive 24/7 hated noise, I in fact embrace it as a monotonous, calming lullaby and have not, in any country, found a more soothing mantra with which to sleep, thus the notion of 'noise is simply sound in the wrong place and usually in the wrong quantity' is entirely accurate!Domhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01024828718062456187noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7725154806633928919.post-32919015194820905162011-10-09T22:47:53.479+02:002011-10-09T22:47:53.479+02:00Thanks Adam, an interesting post - and thanks for ...Thanks Adam, an interesting post - and thanks for the mention.

The debate between 'noise' and 'sound' is probably an academic one. I have a view but it is only my view. The issue of what has come to be known as 'noise pollution' though is a real one. Noise pollution, the agglomeration of unwanted and unnecessary sounds around us, affects us all. I actually find it more difficult to sleep at night in the complete silence there, which somehow starts to seem quite menacing.Adamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06453626318828119830noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7725154806633928919.post-2951891442248662472011-10-09T22:04:26.167+02:002011-10-09T22:04:26.167+02:00Fascinating post. It seems to me that one of the dangers of noise it that it not only drowns out subtle and beautiful sounds, but that we also start to tune out individual sounds when we do hear them. Then there's also the addiction to noise. I think many people are actually frightened by the lack of cacophony and constant noise when they are in the great outdoors away from the city.Christine H.https://www.blogger.com/profile/09786732494496282743noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7725154806633928919.post-1396504694557654412011-10-09T20:53:03.070+02:002011-10-09T20:53:03.070+02:00Would love to hear the sound of French ladies talk...Would love to hear the sound of French ladies talking without the words, just the musical rise and fall of their conversation.Annehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09601542052605334407noreply@blogger.com
